2023 NFL Draft: AFC South Breakdown

With the NFL Draft around the corner, let’s take a look at each NFL team’s biggest needs heading into the Draft so they can guarantee success next season.

Today, I’m analyzing the AFC South. It’s been a seemingly quiet offseason so far for these four teams, so I’ll jump right into their needs.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Overall Draft Picks: 24, 56, 88, 121, 127, 185, 202, 208, 226

Key Needs: CB, SAF, TE, OG, DT

Potential First-Round Pick: CB Deonte Banks from Maryland

Banks has a great opportunity to develop under Doug Pederson. He has some great skills already, like his exceptional short-area mobility. He’s an explosive athlete and can fine tune his skills to be an even better athlete in the Jaguars organization.

Indianapolis Colts

Overall Draft Picks: 4, 35, 79, 106, 138, 162, 221, 236

Key Needs: QB, EDGE, OG, OT, WR

Potential First-Round Pick: EDGE Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech

Wilson has an incredible frame that will allow him to defend against opponents. Besides his long and dense frame, Wilson has an incredible athleticism with intense acceleration and high-energy initial burst to complement his explosiveness the second the ball is snapped. Already having speed on offense, the Colts would benefit from that matching capability on defense.

Tennessee Titans

Draft Picks: 11, 41, 72, 147, 186, 228

Key Needs: OT, OC, WR, OG, EDGE

Potential First-Round Pick: WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba from Ohio State

Smith-Njigba could potentially be the A.J. Brown replacement the team needs. Though he’s not quite up to the veteran WR’s level, Smith-Njigba possesses great acceleration and explosion off the line. He also has solid momentum. Sharpening these skills in the Titans organization, he may be able to be the missing piece the team needs.

Houston Texans

Draft Picks: 2, 12, 33, 65, 73, 104, 161, 188, 201, 203, 230, 259

Key Needs: QB, EDGE, WR, OG, OC

Potential First-Round Pick: QB Bryce Young from Alabama

What can’t Young do? The man checks the boxes of an impeccable first round talent who can help the Texans succeed next season. Young has the ability to elevate the players around him with his great arm talent and velocity. He also has a consistent pace for quick and deep passes.
