Birds’ Eye View: PREVIEW – Eagles-Cardinals

The next stop on the Philadelphia Eagles’ “Ex Revenge Tour” is with the Arizona Cardinals where they’ll once again see Zach Ertz.

I like to think of Ertz as the nice ex, though, where you both might’ve been in two different places in your lives. There’s no hard feelings and maybe it’ll work out another day, but for right now, an ex is still an ex.

But the Philly Birds travel to the other Birds as they look to stay undefeated. After a fantastic sweep by the Phillies yesterday in the playoffs against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Eagles now need to beat their Cardinals team.

Both teams are going to need to work hard today as they are both plagued with injuries, but the Cardinals are also without their star wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. In 2020, Hopkins had nine receptions for 169 yards and one touchdown versus the Eagles.

Things aren’t all peachy for Philadelphia, however, as Jake Elliott is out following an injury that occurred last week versus the Jags. Patrick Johnson (concussion) and Avonte Maddox (ankle) are out as well. A handful of other guys are out as well, but it’s okay since a fully healthy Philadelphia team will be needed to face off against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles are a stronger and less injured team heading into today’s matchup, so there’ not much they really need to improve on other than making sure they don’t allow holes in the defense like last week. The team has been less sloppy since the start of the season, so as long as they continue playing like they have been, then the Eagles are in good shape.

For the Cardinals, the first objective is to kill the momentum by getting at A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, forcing Jalen Hurts to make decisions he doesn’t want to make. The team is also going to need to expose the holes on the Eagles defense in order to have those breakout plays early and often.
