An arrest warrant has been issued for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in Northern California. This adds another layer of turbulence to an already complicated chapter in the former star’s career.
The warrant charges Aiyuk with a misdemeanor count of exhibition of speed — stemming from a video he posted himself to his YouTube channel in December 2025. The video showed him driving past Levi’s Stadium at more than 100 mph. The speedometer visible from his position in the driver’s seat.
The warrant was first reported by the New York Post.
The timing is notable. Earlier this year, the 49ers voided the guaranteed money in Aiyuk’s contract. They cleared approximately $24.935 million in option bonus money after he failed to meet the requirements of his deal. The move opened the door to parting ways with him. At a postseason press conference, general manager John Lynch stated bluntly that Aiyuk had “played his last snap” with the organization.
Aiyuk, 27, has not played since suffering a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus during a Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in October 2024. In those seven games, he logged just 25 catches for 374 yards. That production marked a steep fall from his back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023. Those performances had earned him a four-year, $120 million extension heading into 2024.
The misdemeanor charge does not carry the legal weight of a felony, but the optics compound an already deteriorating relationship between Aiyuk and the NFL establishment. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Aiyuk “stopped answering anyone’s phone calls, including the head coach’s” during the 2025 season — something Shanahan called unprecedented in 22 years of coaching.
