New data has revealed the most successful racehorses running in the Kentucky Derby this Saturday.
Online horse racing betting operator TwinSpires analyzed the 22 horses scheduled to race in the Kentucky Derby; the number of races won compared to the number of starts was calculated to discover the win rate as a percentage, therefore determining which horses have had the most success so far.
T O Password and Forever Young take first place, winning every race they have started in.
T O Password of Japan will be ridden by Kazushi Kimura in the upcoming derby. The bay colt has had two starts in his career and has finished first in both; although inexperienced, T O Password’s heritage is bursting with top North American dirt runners, putting him in a strong position.
Forever Young, also from Japan, has started in five races in his career and boasts a 100% win rate. Trained by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden by Ryusei Sakai, Forever Young is one of Japans best chances of winning this year’s derby.
Endlessly ranks second, with an 83% win rate, winning five out of six starts in his career. Born in Kentucky, this will be the colts first dirt race and he will be ridden by Umberto Rispoli.
Now a non-runner, Encico was coming into this race with a 75% success rate in their previous outings this means Sierra Leone nowplaces a lone third with the same win rate.
Sierra Leone has won three out of his four races, two of which were this year. The 3-year-old dark bay colt was sold for $2.3 million as a yearling and is trained by four-time Eclipse Award winner Chad Brown.
Catching Freedom and Fierceness are fourth, with a win rate of 60%.
Catching Freedom, trained by 2021 Derby-winning trainer Brad Cox, has won three out of five starts in his career. The bay colt will be ridden by Flavien Prat this Kentucky Derby.
Fierceness has also won three out of five races; the Kentucky-bred colt has been named the 5-2 morning-line favourite for this years derby and will be ridden by John R. Velazquez.
Dornoch and Stronghold place fifth, with a win rate of 50%.
Dornoch has won three out of his six starts and will be ridden by Luis Saez. This year, he will try to emulate his brother Mages’ success, who won last years Kentucky Derby.
Stronghold has also won three out of six races throughout his career. The home-bred three-year-old is trained by Philip D’Amato and will be ridden by Antonio Fresu.
