Birds’ Eye View: PREVIEW – Eagles-Cowboys

Twas the night before kickoff, Eagles fans grew rouse, and the voices of Eagles offensive linemen sang all the house. With both teams missing just a few injured men, the Eagles (13-1) and Cowboys (10-4) still face off once again.

Playoff implications are on the line for both teams, but the Eagles can secure the first seed and NFC East Title today with a win. For the Cowboys, it’s a matter of fighting for the best seed possible – whatever that looks like in a wide open NFC.

Last time the two faced off in October, the Eagles played against the Cowboys backup. Now, the roles are reversed as Gardner Minshew stepped up today while Jalen Hurts recovers from a shoulder sprain. With Hurts out officially, things still remain interesting as a handful of Cowboys are banged up – including Micah Parsons (illness) and Demarcus Lawrence (foot).

Though today’s game plan looks different with Minshew, the Eagles will need to stick to running if not Minshew getting the ball quickly. This could work in favor of the Birds since that fast pace will slow down the Cowboys struggling secondary. Minshew will look to win not only for the team, but for his late former mentor Mike Leach, Mississippi State head coach.

Eagles’ Keys to Success

  • Don’t get cute/sloppy in play calling.
  • Don’t abandon the run game.
  • Expose the secondary.

Cowboys’ Keys to Success

  • Be the team to score first.
  • Use the play action.
  • Pressure Minshew.

Betting Models:

Spread: Eagles +4.5 (-110), Cowboys -4.5 (-110)

O/U 47 (-110)

Eagles ML: +180

Cowboys ML: -225

Prediction: Eagles 28-24

Close game, as expected. The Eagles put up a good fight throughout and I think they have too much going for them heading into tomorrow’s game to not lose.
