A few days before Super Bowl LX and in the midst of political tensions, what better time to celebrate the sport of football than by figuring out where your NFL team stands politically.
Because, that matters.
VoteHub conducted the research on NFL players’ party affiliation, with a breakdown of democrat, republican and independent percentages.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the most left-leaning team, with 50% of the team registering as democrat. The Green Bay Packers are another strongly left team, with 38.9% registering as democrat, but none as republican.
The Los Angeles Chargers are the most right-leaning, with a third of players identifying as republican.
Most of the teams, however, have the largest percentage of independent voters, while the Dallas Cowboys having the least at 23.1% – showing a strong political binary on the team.
VoteHub’s research on NFL players’ party registrations (showing the league’s unusually balanced mix—44.3% Independent, more Independents than either major party) dovetails perfectly with the NFL’s official NFL Votes initiative.
NFL Votes is the league’s long-running, nonpartisan program to boost civic engagement, voter registration, education, and turnout among players, staff, and fans—think PSAs, registration drives, and partnerships like Rock the Vote.
This VoteHub data adds a fresh layer: it shows NFL locker rooms are politically diverse (unlike more skewed leagues like MLB or WNBA), which aligns with the league’s push for broad, inclusive participation without favoring one side.
