New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the field on Thursday following a toe injury in his right foot.
Fields threw an incomplete short pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert, to which he went down and stayed on the ground briefly before being assisted off the field by a trainer.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn said he doesn’t know the severity of the injury yet, but suspects Fields foot was hurt after another player stepped on it.
“When anybody goes down, there’s a lump in my throat,” Glenn said. “I hate injuries for any player. But the thing is, I want to make sure exactly what the injury is before I move forward on my thought process.”
Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract as a free agent and will have the starting job in a month.
“I think the most important part is, if anything does happen to Justin, I don’t think there’s any drop off as far as what we want to do when it comes to play,” Glenn said.
