The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Travis Hunter in the NFL Draft. The team acquired the generational talent every franchise wanted. Coming from the Colorado Buffaloes, Hunter is determined to play on both sides of the field, just like he did in college.
Regardless of his desire to play wide receiver and cornerback, the NFL is not even close to college. You have more experience and strong players on the other team. Travis Hunter will be lost, but his work ethic and talent will help him quickly.
The real question about Hunter isn’t about his ability to play in the NFL. It’s about the position he’s best suited for.
While social media and television may put him as a wide receiver, recent training footage indicates that his first steps could be as a cornerback.
Travis Hunter is struggling with routes
Like every other franchise in the league, the Jaguars made an offseason training. All rookies have the chance to prove their value to seek a professional contract.
The Jacksonville Jaguars posted many videos with Travis Hunter as the protagonist. However, these videos didn’t turn out the way the team had wanted.
It didn’t demonstrate the generational and brilliant talent they drafted but a player tripping and catching the ball with his body.
During those plays, Travis Hunter runs two intermediate and one short route. His slow change of direction makes him an easy target to guard.
When it comes to his catching abilities, Hunter has to realize that the freedom he enjoyed in college won’t translate to the professional level. At this level, defenders are merciless and won’t give him the space to rely on his body to make catches. He needs to adapt to the intensity and pressure of the NFL.
Every analyst and fan knows that to make the most of a player like Hunter, you play him in his natural position.
Once you unlock his full potential, then you can use him as an offensive weapon.
