10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting Disney Dreamlight Valley

Real talk — Disney Dreamlight Valley is a monster of a game with story quests intertwined with friendship quests and the expansion packs’ storylines. I don’t know about you, but it’s actually sometimes overwhelming with what I should do next to make the most of my gameplay. However, now looking back and being deep in the game, here’s things I would prioritize if I restarted the game.

Tip #1: You Can Unlock Realms in Any Order

I love just being able to unlock everything in the game as soon as humanely possible, but what if I told you that’s not the smartest gameplay for Dreamlight Valley. Take your time unlocking the realms, you’re going to be very busy doing just about everything else anyway. In the time that you complete other tasks, you’ll naturally be working up the Dreamlight to unlock more realms.

If you do feel the need to get an early boost in the game, I would suggest unlocking the Moana, WALL-E and Lion King realms for a boost on tools, farming and fishing.

Tip #2: Tool Upgrades Are Everything

Had I known how important it would be to upgrade my tools, I would have done it much sooner than I am now. I would tell you this is something you don’t need to worry about as hard, but no, I would strongly recommend you upgrading your tools as soon as possible with the help from Merlin, Maui, Anna and Scar.

Tip #3: Time Travel Breaks Your Game

Where are all my Animal Crossing players at? You know what I’m talking about here. Just because you can time travel in the game, doesn’t mean you should, or that it’ll work. If you mess around with the clock too much, it can glitch your quests, block events and even make you unable to harvest crops. Plus – I tried this – you can’t get your stuff to grow faster through time traveling.

Just play the game normally, the beauty of these real-time games is that you’re able to play it in real time so why mess around with that capability?

(If you really have to time travel because you don’t get to play the game until maybe the evening or night, then I would say that’s your loophole for time traveling.)

Tip #4: Villagers Have Specialties—Use Them Wisely

The really cool thing about this game that makes me wish I paid a little more attention to is where your villagers are assigned specific roles to help you progress a little faster in the game. Having a villager with a matching role present while you perform that related action increases the chances of them dropping extra resources.

So, for those looking to get an early boost of Star Coins in the game, having a farming buddy while you harvest those cash crops will be key. Make every hangout count!

Tip #5: Dreamlight Duties = Easy Points

Something that I never neglected was the importance of Dreamlight Duties. These daily tasks, from changing your outfit to winning Scramblecoin, provide easy Dreamlight you need in the game. You’re more than likely not going to neglect the duties, as this pops up when you need extra Dreamlight and during the Star Paths as well, but make sure you utilize these daily tasks to chip away at earning more Dreamlight.

Tip #6: Don’t Waste Moonstones

If you take anything away from this guide, do not waste your Moonstones. It might be tempting to use them for any other reason outside of Star Paths and shop items, but trust me when I say it’s far more worth it to save them for those specific instances. If you need more, the basically easiest way to obtain them is through buying them in-game. The cheapest pack of Moonstones is 1,200 stones for $4.99.

Tip #7: Scrooge’s Shop Refreshes Daily

I’ve never been one to peruse Scrooge’s Shop because up until like two days ago, I was broke in the game. But starting out early with a lot of Star Coins will help you be able to enjoy Scrooge’s Shop a lot more. If you see something cute, and cute things appear often in that shop, try to grab it that day as it might not return for a while.

Tip #8: Farming = Coins

I’ve been talking about this one specific tip throughout the whole article, but farming for coins is going to give you a huge advantage in the game. Before I knew about pumpkins and onions, I was growing and selling carrots like crazy. That being said, just starting out in the game, you’ll want to utilize selling carrots and wheat until you’re able to sell the larger cash crops. You’ll also be saving energy and coins off the bat.

Tip #9: Feed Critters the Right Food

Who knew bunnies in the game liked mushrooms over berries? I can’t believe I didn’t know about using a guide sooner to help figure out what the critters like to eat. This isn’t necessarily a life-changing tip for the game, but it is a fun thing you can do and unlock faster.

Tip #10: Storage Is a Struggle, But Crafting Helps

The things you don’t want to be selling right now is softwood, hardwood, dark wood, stone, gold and iron ingots. Stockpile these resources so you can build a ton of chests to keep your stuff in. Sure, it might be a bit of a hassle at first, but it’ll surely save you time, energy and frustrations when you have more storage in game.
