PHILADELPHIA, PA- November 21, 2024: Rodney McLeod Jr., former Philadelphia Eagles safety and Super Bowl Champion currently with the Cleveland Browns, and his wife Erika McLeod, co-founder of the Change Our Future Foundation, are set to make the Thanksgiving Holiday brighter for 200 Philadelphia families at the 5th Annual Change Our Future Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway! The event will take place tomorrow, Friday, November 22, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Lucien’s Blackwell Center, located at 761 N 47th St in Philadelphia.
The Thanksgiving Giveaway will be held in partnership with The International People’s Storehouse (T.I.P.S.), whose mission is to directly support and address communities disproportionately impacted by social determinants in extremely impoverished, high-crime, disadvantaged, and underserved areas.
The 5th Annual Change Our Future Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway will provide turkeys, fresh produce, and dinner sides to families facing food insecurity to ensure they have everything they need to prepare Thanksgiving dinner at home! The distribution will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, helping those who may be struggling to put food on the table this holiday season.
“The goal of this event is to show love and kindness to families in the community who may be experiencing tough times,” said Rodney McLeod, co-founder of Change Our Future. “We know people in our community are struggling to afford groceries, and that’s especially challenging around the holidays. They want to have that tradition of gathering loved ones around the table for a nice Thanksgiving meal and we have the opportunity as a foundation, and as a community, to come together and make that happen for them. There’s no greater reward than that.”
Additional community partners for the giveaway include PA Health & Wellness, Rose’s Club House, and Share Foods, among others.
Rodney McLeod, a 13-year NFL veteran safety who played for the Eagles from 2017-2021, and Erika McLeod hold a special place in their hearts for the Philadelphia community. They co-founded the Change Our Future nonprofit in 2020 with the mission of supporting families and empowering underserved youth through education, mentorship, literacy programs, health initiatives, and community enrichment.
Since its inception, the organization has made significant strides in giving back to the Philadelphia community through events and youth initiatives like Next Man Up, S.T.E.A.M. Fusion and City Tour, their annual Sneaker Ball, I Am Youth Leadership Summit and annual holiday initiatives like the Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway! With the support of charitable business partners and donors, Change Our Future has provided food and resources to thousands of families across Philadelphia, Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Maryland who might otherwise go hungry.
This Thanksgiving, Change Our Future invites individuals, families, and organizations to join them in supporting local families by adopting a family in need.
