What a first Sunday of NFL football it has been. With news of Kendrick Lamar being announced as the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer and major storylines popping up today, some players are still dealing with contracts as the season kicks off.

Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a historic 4-year contract extension worth $240 million. Earning $60 million a year, he is now the highest paid player in the NFL.

“I’ve never played the game for that,” Prescott said of massive contract extensions, via the team’s website. “I’ve played a game for the pure love for the guys in that locker room. Yes, this game has always brought me something that not a lot of things in life do. That type of peace, it does.”

Prescott took over the quarterback job in 2016 after Tony Romo went down with an injury. After leading the team to the playoffs, he solidified himself as the face of the franchise.

Coming off of being Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2022 and runner-up for NFL MVP in 2023, Prescott earned this contract by putting up 4,516 passing yards and led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes.

Meanwhile, another star player has not solidified his contract.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is active for the season opener against the New England Patriots, but his contract is still up in the air.

Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Chase and the Bengals could not agree on new terms, though he still has two years remaining on his rookie deal.

The three-time Pro-Bowl wide receiver did participate in Sunday’s warmups in the team, which softens the blow to the Bengals as they are without other star receiver, Tee Higgins.
