Tennessee Titans
Season Recap
This was the Titans’ 54th season in the NFL and sixth and final under head coach Mike Vrabel. Failing to improve on their 7-10 record from the season prior, the Titans struggled a lot this season. Playing a lot of close games that ended in losses mixed with some key players injured resulted in the Titans not being able to make magic happen. After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018, the Titans attempted to run it back. Unfortunately, a Week 15 loss to the Houston Texans in overtime eliminated the Titans from contention. Just before the postseason, the Titans parted ways with Coach Vrabel.
Major Offseason Moves
The Titans gained safety Jamal Adams, wide receiver Tyler Boyd and running back Tony Pollard. They lost tackle Andre Dillard, running back Derrick Henry and cornerback Rod Gattison.
Make/Miss Playoffs: Miss
Houston Texans
Season Recap
This was the Texans’ 22nd season in the NFL and the first under head coach DeMeco Ryans. Thought to be in a rebuilding period, the Titans gradually exceeded expectations, turning their 3-13-1 record the season prior into a 10-7 record. After the Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Tennessee Titans in Week 18, the Texans clinched the AFC South title for the first time since 2019 – marking the fifth team in NFL history to make the playoffs with a rookie head coach and rookie quarterback. The Texans went on to win against the Cleveland Browns in the playoffs, 45-14, but then lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round, 10-34.
Major Offseason Moves
The Texans gained Bengals’ running back Joe Mixon, Bills’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs and Panthers’ cornerback C. J. Henderson. They lost tackle Maliek Collins and wide receivers Jaden Janke and Jared Wayne.
Make/Miss Playoffs: Make
Jacksonville Jaguars
Season Recap
This was the Jaguars’ 29th season in the NFL, third under general manager Trent Baalke and second under head coach Doug Pederson. Riding the high from 2022, the Jaguars were expected to win the AFC South. They started the season 8-3, but a late-season collapse plagued the team to go 9-8. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence played through an injury sustained in their Week 13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Their season tumbled fast as the AFC South title slipped away due to their loss to the Titans.
Major Offseason Moves
The Jaguars gained San Francisco 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead, Baltimore Ravens cornerback Ronald Darby and Atlanta Falcons cornerback Tre Flowers. They lost linebacker Ty Summers, defensive end Andre Carter and kicker Riley Patterson.
Make/Miss Playoffs: Miss
Indianapolis Colts
Season Recap
This was the Colts’ 71st season in the NFL and first under head coach Shane Steichen. The Colts were not expected to do much this season, but they did slightly improve from 2022 with a 9-8 record. Practically in a rebuilding era, the Colts were eliminated from playoff contention in the final week of the season for the second time in three seasons after losing to the divisional rival Houston Texans.
Major Offseason Moves
The Colts gained Browns quarterback Joe Flacco, center Ryan Coll and offensive lineman Matt Goncalves. They lost wide receiver Terrell Bynum and cornerback Tony Brown in a very quiet offseason.
Make/Miss Playoffs: Miss
Division Winner Prediction
I think the Houston Texans are the most stable team out of this historically weak division. It feels like the other three teams are in different stages of a rebuilding period, and the Texans are aggressively taking advantage of the opportunity.
