Thursday morning, the Atlanta Falcons were docked their fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and fined for violating the NFL’s anti-tampering policy related to free agent signings.

The Philadelphia Eagles were cleared by the league of their signing of running back Saquon Barkley this offseason.

According to ESPN, “The tampering violations are related to the Falcons having ‘improper contact’ with prospective unrestricted free agents Kirk Cousins, Darnell Mooney and Charlie Woerner during the two-day negotiating period prior to the start of the 2024 league year.”

In addition to the forfeited pick, the Falcons were fined $250,000 while general manager Terry Fontenot was fined $50,000.

The Saquon Barkley signing this offseason sparked controversy from James Franklin, Barkley’s coach at Penn State, who suggested Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke to Barkley during the “legal tampering” period.

The league released a statement saying they reviewed all information regarding the Barkley signing and found no tampering.
