REVIEW: WYN Beauty by Serena Williams is the real deal

Being a sports content creator is hard in a world of makeup, health and wellness, TikTok dancing and fashion. When the sports world gets a little collaboration with another area of pop culture, of course I’m going to jump on the opportunity.

That’s exactly what happened when I walked into Ulta last week and saw Serena Williams’ new makeup line, WYN Beauty on display. Naturally, a sporty makeup brand was calling my name, so I grabbed a few products to try.

I started with finding my shade in the Hydrating Skin Enhancing Tint with SPF 30. I ended up going with shade 180 – Determine. It’s a light medium skin tint with warm undertones. I will say, the tint dries a half of a shade darker than what the color is, but as long as you get shade matched (and go light with the tint) you’ll be fine.

According to the WYN Beauty website, “Our skin tint enhances skin with buildable coverage and a naturally radiant finish. Formulated with invisible sun protection and our Truly Unstoppable HydraComplex™, the lightweight formula delivers up to 72 hours of hydration. Available in 36 shades.”

I will say, my face was already pretty hydrated (thank you Bubble) but I do like the idea of the long-lasting hydration. Since this brand is curated for athletes who wear makeup, the hydration/SPF duo is top tier. I put this makeup to the test going to the bowling alley with my partner. (Feel free to check out his side hustle, Delco Leads).

This skin tint did not melt off. Most times, I’ve had experiences with foundations and concealers melting off my skin even after setting powder and setting spray. This skin tint really holds onto your skin. The skin tint also has a nice base that blends well with makeup and hides pores.

Now, onto room for improvement. I was silly and didn’t read that this product is a tint and not a foundation, therefore the formula is a lot lighter – so it doesn’t cover much. When I tried to build on it, it ended up being kind of patchy, but I also could have been going about this the wrong way. I have some acne and hirsutism marks on my face, and they weren’t really covered until I went over them with concealer.

You also can’t build on this tint as it dries fairly quick, so it’s kind of meant to be quickly used all over the face. I don’t think this is a bad thing, but I think this skin tint is better served for an active date versus going on the red carpet.

I also picked up the Say Everything Max Intensity Featherweight Lipstick in the shade Sing, which is a nude pink color. I believe I read it was one of Serena’s favorites, so I figured it would be the perfect one to try. I can see why it’s her favorite – the color is beautiful and the composition glides on your lips. For me, it’s basically a natural color that works perfectly for my skin tone (and the skin tint).

The lipstick comes in 10 shades. According to the website, “Our featherweight lipstick coats lips in impactful color that feels like you’re wearing nothing at all. Our hydrating formula delivers full-Coverage color in a satin finish that sets beautifully and glides on with ease.”

I like that this lipstick pairs well with lip gloss and overall completes the look. My only qualm with the product is that it is not long-lasting, which unfortunately means you will have to frequently reapply. If you’re an athlete, you’re probably not going to do that. However, for someone who wants to use this lipstick for a night out, you might not mind the reapplication.

See below the before and after, including before makeup, just the skin tint, skin tint and lipstick, whole look and how it did after a night of bowling.

Overall, this seems like a solid makeup brand. It’s a skincare-focused brand that I think should start being a trend in makeup in 2024. I think Williams did really well cultivating a makeup brand made for athletes while providing some sort of glam just in time for summer. You can get WYN Beauty online or at Ulta.
