NFL 2023: AFC/NFC Players, Rookies of the Month

Below are the exceptional players who are the AFC, NFC and rookies of the month.

AFC Offensive Player of the Month: Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (1,024 pass yards, 8 touchdown passes, 121.9 passer rating).

Tagovailoa has the highest passer rating in the NFL and most pass yards in the AFC in Weeks 1-3. This is his first career Player of the Month. He is the first dolphin to win OPOM since 1993 with QB Schott Mitchell who won in October. He is the first former Alabama QB to earn the honor.

AFC Defensive Player of the Month: Steelers LB T.J. Watt (11 tackles, six sacks, one fumble recovery-touchdown, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two passes deflected)

Watt is the only player with two games of 2+ sacks in Weeks 1-3. This is his fourth career DPOM, tied with Bills LB Von Miller for most among active players. He became the first Steeler to win four DPOM awards and the only former Wisconsin player to earn more POMs is his brother, J.J. Watt with six.

AFC Special Teams Player of the Month: Bills K Tyler Bass (7-7 field goals, 1 40+, 2 50+, 31 kicking points)

Bass leads with the most kicking points by an AFC player in Weeks 1-3. This is his third career POM. He is the fourth Bills player to earn POM three or more times and surpasses Falcons K Younghoe Koo for most POMs by a former Georgia Southern player.

NFC Offensive Player of the Month: 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (423 scrimmage yards – 353 rush, 40 rec; three rushing touchdowns)

McCaffrey leads the NFL in rush yards and is the only NFC player with rushing touchdowns in Weeks 1-3. This is his third career POM, tied with Derrick Henry or most among active RBs. He is the second 49er ever to win OPOM multiple times and surpasses John Elway and Andrew Luck for most POMs ever by a former Stanford player.

NFC Defensive Player of the Month: Cowboys LB Micah Parsons (12 tackles, four sacks, five tackles-for-loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one pass deflected)

Parsons is the only NFC player with four or more sacks, a forced fumble and recovery in Weeks 1-3. This is his first career POM and joins Sean Lee as the only Cowboys LB to ever win DPOM. He becomes the first former Penn State player to win DPOM award since NaVorro Bowman.

NFC Special Teams Player of the Month: Buccaneers P Jake Camarda (Seven In-20, longest at 74)

Camarda leads the league in yards per punt average and has tied for the most punts inside the 20 in NFC. This is his first career POM and becomes the second Buccaneers P to win STPOM. He became the fourth Georgia player to earn STPOW and first since Blair Walsh.

Offensive Rookie of the Month: Texans QB C.J. Stroud (906 pass yards, four passing touchdowns, no interceptions)

Stroud is the third player in NFL history with 900+ pass yards in first three career games. He is the fifth Texans rookie to win OROM joining RB Domanick Davis, WR DeAndre Hopkins, RB Steve Slaton and QB Deshaun Watson. He is the fourth former Ohio State player to win OROM joining RB Ezekiel Elliott, RB Eddie George and WR Chris Olave.

Defensive Rookie of the Month: Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez (16 tackles, three pass deflections, one interception, one sack, one tackle-for-loss)

Gonzalez is the only rookie with 10+ tackles, 2+ pass deflections, an interception and sack in the first three weeks. He is the third Patriot to win DROM joining DE Chandler Jones and LB Jerod Mayo. He is also the third former Oregon player to win DROM joinin LB Kiko Alonso and S Jairus Byrd.
