Nintendo Direct: Mario Bros steal the show, cozy games announced

Just days after another major video gaming update, Nintendo Direct dropped its recent episode Thursday morning at 10 a.m. ET. This livestream featured roughly 40 minutes of information on Nintendo Switch games being released this winter.

The most recent Direct focused on the next evolution of Super Mario Bros fun, Pikmin, Dragon Quest Monsters and Paldea Region.

Take a look at just some of the highlights from the September 2023 Nintendo Direct below.

Splatoon 3 was announced at the top of the show. The game’s battles are meant to be played over and over. Splatoon 3 is set to release Spring 2024.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong is another fun game, and the first of many Mario Bros franchise games to be announced, coming early 2024. In this game, Mario must track down Donkey Kong who stole toys from Mario’s toy factory. Using observation and action tactics, players will have new ways to figure out how to solve the levels.

Mario’s first RPG adventure returns November with Super Mario RPG. Use action commands to unleash triple moves against enemies and boss levels that you can replay. Don’t expect the rematches to get easier.

Now, Princess Peach will get a cut of the action with Princess Peach Showtime expected to release March 2024. Transform into a swordfighter or pastry chef among others and embark on a journey of warding off enemies to save the day.

Get up and moving with Wario Ware Move It, expected to drop November. Match the certain forms needed to compete in the minigames and win. It’s a full-body game where the “micro-games” will come one after the other, so don’t expect to slack off.

Ready for spooky good fun? Luigi’s Haunted Mansion 2, expected to release Summer 2024 comes with its own mayhem-filled levels. This action-packed game also includes a four-player online co-op to defeat ghosts.

One last Mario game looking to come back is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door coming next year. The beloved game features enhanced battles.

The list of Mario games might’ve ended there, but for those enjoying Mario Kart, the final wave of unlockables comes this holiday season. Wii Daisy Circuit will be available as well as Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Pauline and Peachette added to the game.

Last but not least to the Mario fun, DLC Super Smash Bros Sora will be available as an Amiibo, releasing 2024.

Prince of Persia comes early 2024 where the action-packed world will involve the main character, Sargon, getting stronger through game play.

Another Code: Recollection is an adventure game set to release early 2024.

The SaGa series continues with SaGa Emerald Beyond in 2024. Choose from a variety of characters to emark on an adventure full of timeline battles.

A few fun and creative games are coming to Switch as well. Super Cozy Rhythm Castle is an action game that uses music to incorporate beating fun levels. Looking for another cozy game? Check out SPYxAnna: Operation Memories where you can choose what memories, side quests and fun things to embark on to create a diary. Operation Memories will release next year.

Another cozy game coming to Switch is Dave the Diver, releasing October. This RPG game has you exploring an underwater world while you catch fish and make sushi for your restaurant.

Just when you think the Stardew Valley and Animal Crossings of the world end, there’s another game joining the cozy role play family. Eastward Octopia is just that next game, releasing this holiday season.

Among the few other updates includes a new map in the Among Us game. The Direct introduced a mushroom jungle (in theme with the Super Mario Bros drop) called Fungle. This map will be free in October.

The Nintendo Museum updates got some screentime. This historic museum is set to be finished construction in March 2024 in Kyoto, Japan.
