‘Behind the Sims’ shares new packs, Project Rene updates

Another Behind the Sims episode dropped Tuesday, September 12 with a bunch of new updates across all of the Sims games in the franchise. The biggest news for fans is the return of stuff packs and a new expansion pack coming soon.

Sims 4 “Behind the Sims” is a series of episodes by the Sims team to release important updates about the Sims 4, Sims FreePlay, Sims Mobile and “Project Rene” which has been speculated to be Sims 5. Each episode drops every few months to cover a span of time, for this recent episode, these updates will come between now and the rest of 2023.

First, Sims 4 fans will expect stuff packs to return. The ‘Home Chef Hustle’ will have new ways of cooking, making money and new build and Create-A-Sim items for Simmers to get busy. An early fan favorite is the waffle maker, from Nordic-style waffles to the American-style favorite, chicken and waffles.

Along with the new foody pack, the base game cooking menu will get an update. To easier maneuver the menu, the Sims team will categorize the menu so you can easily find what you want your Sims to make. Sims can also make cupcakes in the oven, not needing the cupcake machine anymore.

The era of hustling continues as a new neighborly expansion pack with drop, telling fans to prepare for the “Hustle and Bustle” of the new pack.

Kits will be released as well. The Sims community was able to vote on Kits early in 2023 and the winners that will be released are the Goth Galore (clothing) and Castle Estate (building) kits.

Sims Mobile will see some cool, new updates as well. The game will include Halloween gameplay in addition to “100 Years of Hollywood” which seems very reminiscent of a “Get Famous” kind of gameplay. There will also be a brand new story for gameplay.

The Sims FreePlay will see a Day of the Dead gameplay where Sims can feast, drink and dance to celebrate with loved ones. In the newest update for the game, Simmers will enjoy Pastel Pastimes which will give Sims the opportunity to create outfits and build things with “soft and dreamy hues.”

Project Rene, which was speculated to be Sims 5 received a fair amount of screen time during the show. Project Rene is a “new way to play The Sims.” It will not replace The Sims 4 and will instead coexist with other Sims games.

When ready, Project Rene will be free to download. This language is interesting because obviously The Sims 4 is “free to play.” It seems like Project Rene will be more of a tool than an actual game, but I could be wrong. It will also grow over time and be a new way of development in the Sims world.

Lastly, the Sims are officially putting out merchandise for Simmers to buy. It won’t be available until later this year, meaning Sims merchandize could make for the perfect holiday gift.
