What to Do During Spring in “Stardew Valley”

Stardew Valley Spring Calendar

Stardew Valley is a farming simulation game where instead of working a corporate job for the rest of your life, your grandfather gives you his farm that grants you the opportunity to bring life back to the town.

Comprised of four seasons, players begin in the spring. This gives players the opportunity to learn some of the more important aspects of the game – farming and building relationships – before expanding to other aspects of the game.

Spring is a great opportunity for fresh beginnings and cultivating a successful in-game year of gameplay, this guide will help you break down anything you need to have a great spring season for first-time players or those entering Year 10.

SPRING BIRTHDAY GUIDE

Probably an overlooked part of the game, birthdays are a perfect time to boost friendships in the game. There are eight villagers who have spring birthdays. If you cannot find these specific gifts that they like, you can also forage for daffodils found in the spring to give to the villagers. The only spring birthday villager who doesn’t like daffodils is Shane, but if you save enough hot peppers, you can give one to him after giving one to Lewis.

SEASONAL TIPS

Plant a variety of spring crops like strawberries, potatoes, cauliflower and rhubarbs. You can find strawberry seeds at the Egg Festival for only 100 gold each. Instead of waiting for the plants to grow to sell for 120 per plant, you can craft kegs to turn the strawberries into wine that will sell for more.

Forage for spring-only items like horseradish, daffodils, leeks, dandelions, spring onions, morels and salmonberries that you can use for a plethora of spring game progressions. If you’re looking to gift, Krobus loves horseradish and George likes leeks. You can also turn some of the foraged items into wines and jellies that sell for a pretty penny.

Prepare for the summer because spring crops will die. The only crop that can roll over into the summer season are coffee beans, but you’ll need to prepare and get summer-only seeds next. If you’ve spent time making strawberry wine or spring forage jellies, you might be familiar by now with using kegs. Make a few more kegs out of oak resin, wood, copper and iron bars so your summer crops can be turned into profitable wines and jellies.

Final Thoughts

The most important thing about this game is that it is going to feel like work. If you ever feel like it’s impossible to get something, be sure to check out the Traveling Merchant every Friday and Sunday in the Cindersap Forest to see if you can purchase what you’re trying to find or make.
