Who is most likely to repeat championships?

Now that we’re in a lull sports period – not yet football season, playoff baseball on the horizon, and basketball and hockey offseasons in full swing – it’s a great time to think about who could have the best chance to be a repeat champion next year.

Currently, the Western teams of the U.S. dominate across the four major sports. The Houston Astros, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Nuggets and Vegas Golden Knights took their respective championships, but how likely are each of them to repeat?

Currently on BetMGM, the Atlanta Braves have the shortest odds to win the World Series at (+350). Sitting comfortably at 64-34 and atop the National League, it makes a lot of sense for the Braves to be a sure favorite right now as the dust settles for the second half of the season. 

The Astros, on the other hand, are further down the list of odds at (+900). They’re fourth in the American League and have to battle for the top spot over the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays and even division rival Texas Rangers before being probably favorites.

The Kansas City Chiefs, a surefire favorite team in the NFL the past few years because of the unstoppable Mahomes-Reid quarterback-head coach, sit uncomfortably at (+600) because the Philadelphia Eagles are on their tail at (+700). Regardless, it might be a safe bet to see the Chiefs make a deep run again, with them winning the AFC Championship at (+350).

The Denver Nuggets, a team that’s been on fire the last half of the NBA season en route to an NBA championship are (+475) to repeat. It feels like this team is set up to win year after year, so betting them to win again is not a bad bet.

Finally, though the Vegas Golden Knights won the NHL Stanley Cup, the Colorado Avalanche have the best odds to win next season. Currently at (+800), Avalanche is looking like an early favorite compared to the (+1200) Golden Knights as repeating champions.

We’ve seen what happens come playoff time for the Astros before and how they’re able to get back into the fierce team they can be. Will that be enough this year? There’s some shaky ground in the NHL about who could be the winner next year. As for the Chiefs, there are about five or six teams who basically have equal footing to dominate to the Super Bowl.

For those reasons, the Denver Nuggets feel like the best bet to make as a repeat champion.
