NFL 2023: NFC North Breakdown

The 2023 NFL season is around the corner, which means it’s the perfect time to take a look at how each team will potentially shape up this season.

We start with the NFC North, a division that’s lost a lot and gained some back.

BetMGM NFC North Bets: Bears Division Winner (+375), Lions Division Winner (+140), Dual Bears/Lions (+300), Most Rush Yards: Fields (+175)

Chicago Bears

Season Recap: After starting 2-1, the Bears went downhill going on a losing streak. They were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 13, and were able to secure the first overall pick in Week 18. Justin Fields succeeded with 1,000 rush yards and the Bears led the league with 3,014 rush yards on 588 attempts, breaking their previous rush yards record in 1984. This is also the second season with head coach Matt Eberflus.

Offseason: The Bears had a fantastic offseason, improving their offense and defense. The team is working to build around Fields, much like the Eagles were able to do with Jalen Hurts. After the Bears got the first overall draft pick, they traded it to the Panthers to obtain WR DJ Moore. The team also signed LB TJ Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds.

Make/Miss the Playoffs: Make

Detroit Lions

Season Recap: The Lions started 1-6 but had a midseason turn around that let them finish 9-8. Unfortunately it was not enough for them to make the playoffs as they were eliminated in Week 18.

Offseason: The team brought back a lot of help and brought in defensive help like CJ Gardner-Johnson, Cameron Sutton and Emanuel Moseley. They upgraded at running back with David Montgomery and got extra help with draftees Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell and Sam LaPorta.

Make/Miss the Playoffs: Maybe?

Minnesota Vikings

Season Recap: The Vikings had a good season. They started 8-1 which catapulted them into a playoff berth. They lost in the Wild Card Round to the Giants. The team expects to improve from their negative point differential and 31st rank in total yards allowed.

Offseason: The Vikings did not do anything with Kirk Cousins contract, meaning he will enter his final year with the team. They brought in Marcus Davenport and Jordan Addison for extra help, but will miss a major part of their offense with Dalvin Cook gone.

Make/Miss the Playoffs: Miss

Green Bay Packers

Season Recap: The Packers started 3-1, however they collapsed midseason with a five-game losing streak. They were able to somewhat turn things around going 8-8, however they were eliminated from playoff contention by the Lions.

Offseason: The biggest offseason news remains that Aaron Rodgers is gone. The Packers also had a quiet offseason, drafting Luke Van Ness and Karl Brooks. They also brought in Tarvarius Moore, Matt Orzech and Jonathan Owens.

Make/Miss the Playoffs: Miss

Division Winner Prediction: Bears

It’s safe to say the Packers will be shaky because of their quiet offseason and having Jordan Love be the starting guy. The Vikings are also going to have their fair share of struggles with the little moves they made in the offseason and their struggles last season. The Bears feel like the stronger team between them and the Lions, so the Bears might be the best bet to win the NFC North.
